Find the Mains Tap

If a pipe blows at 2 AM, water floods the house fast. You need to cut off the supply instantly. Do not wait for a crisis to go looking for the mains tap. It usually sits out near the front boundary, right next to the water meter. If you don’t know where yours is, go find it today. Turn it clockwise and make sure it moves. Valves seize up after years sitting in the dirt.

Protect Your Drains

Kitchen sinks cannot handle liquid fat. Pouring hot cooking oil down the drain is a guaranteed way to build a concrete-hard blockage deep in your pipes. Scrape it into the bin instead.

In the bathroom, hair and wet wipes cause the chaos. Even ‘flushable’ wipes do not break down in the sewer. They catch on tree roots and block the main line. Your hot water system works harder than any other appliance. Over time, sediment builds up at the bottom of the tank. This forces the burner or element to work harder. Hunt for Leaks
